Solid State Records is pleased to announce the addition of surging Texas metal buzz band FIT FOR A KING to its growing roster of trendsetting acts.
The hotly tipped metalcore band has been elbowing its way onto the national scene as a full-time touring outfit, cultivating fans at an alarming clip with a crushingly heavy, artful take on the genre that gives subtle tips of the hat to bands as diverse as THE ACACIA STRAIN, CIRCA SURVIVE and LINKIN PARK. The band’s passionate music, coupled with an explosive live show, has made FIT FOR A KING a sensation in the independent music scene, as evidenced by the 600,000+ fans who viewed their debut video on YouTube.
To tide over that army of devotees until their Solid State debut is ready for release, FIT FOR A KING are unveiling a new video today for fan favorite track “Descendants.” Shot primarily in an Oklahoma City venue while the band was on tour with ICE NINE KILLS, the video captures FIT FOR A KING in all of their raging, kinetic glory.
“‘Descendants’ is a good introduction to FFAK because it’s energetic and in your face. It is one of our heaviest songs but it has a lot of groove,” explains guitarist Justin Hamra. “We shot most of the video during the show, and then worked until about 2 am getting single shots, and then had a 12 hour drive the following day to make it to the next show in Tennessee.” All in a day’s work for one of the underground metal scene’s most buzzing bands.
To Speak of Wolves - Find Your Worth, Come Home
Record Label: Solid State Records
Release Date: May 22nd, 2012
I first heard of Greensboro, NC natives To Speak of Wolves when I saw them open for Underoath and Emery back in 2009. Releasing “Myself<Letting Go” to rave reviews in 2010, the band lost original vocalist, Rick Jacobs and picked up Oh, Sleeper’s merch guy Gage Speas for vocal duty. After seeing the band three times (once with Rick Jacob and twice with Gage Speas, I can honestly say they’ve found their sound with the new vocalist. “Find Your Worth, Come Home" contains two guest vocals from Micah Kinard of Oh, Sleeper on “Stand Alone Complex”, and Levi the Poet on “Rearview Memories” which gives the album variation. To Speak of Wolves waste no time shifting into high gear with the ferocious opener, "Hivemind" which smashes through the wall and grabs you by the throat. It’s quite obvious the band are influenced by The Chariot and Norma Jean (back when they had Josh Scogin in the band) which is evident in guitarists Corey Doran and Aaron Kisling’s chaotic playing even more so in Gage’s raw vocals. Thankfully, their guitar playing stands out among hundreds of other bands who prefer chugging and breakdowns over innovative riffs. Phil Chamberlain’s drumming really shines through on this record, especially on the songs, "Je Suis Fini", "Broken Birds", and Hivemind. It’s safe to say that To Speak of Wolves have secured their place as one of Solid State’s next big bands.
8.5/10
With a writhing beast of a new album waiting in the wings, North Carolina hard rock misfits TO SPEAK OF WOLVES are giving fans a taste of the ferocity to come with the release of the first single, “Stand Alone Complex.”
Careening off the rails with frantic snare blasts and caterwauling riffage, “Stand Alone Complex” is not only the first track released from the forthcoming Find Your Worth, Come Home – available online and in stores everywhere May 22 via Solid State Records – but it also serves as the first sample of the unhinged vocals of new TO SPEAK OF WOLVES frontman Gage Speas, the spark plug driving this band into wild new territories with an album they never dreamed they could make.

“Musically, we feel this song is a great first look into the new record,” says drummer and founding member Phil Chamberlain. “It’s a fast and intense song, a good mix stylistically from the new album as a whole. The song features guest vocals by Micah Kinard from OH, SLEEPER on the bridge and has one of our favorite guitar riffs as a climatic ending.”
"Lyrically, Gage wrote about a time in his life when he was questioning his relationship with God, and the subsequent realization that a person can only decide for themselves the status of that relationship, instead of letting the actions of those around you influence that decision," he adds. "The song also deals with the people in Gage’s life at the time, like Micah, who helped him come to that realization and understanding that God is real no matter what is going on in the world around you."
Equal parts rabid ferocity and melodic euphoria, “Stand Alone Complex” is a fitting introduction to Find Your Worth, Come Home, which sees the revitalized lineup reaching into darker, heavier and faster territory. It’s an album of rediscovery, and an album that freshly stamps what TO SPEAK OF WOLVES is about, from the title on down. Find Your Worth, Come Home is the follow-up to TO SPEAK OF WOLVES’ heralded 2010 debut, Myself < Letting Go, which catapulted the band onto the national stage with its road-rash riffage and soaring, arena-worthy choruses. Relentless touring alongside likeminded bands such as UNDER0ATH, AUGUST BURNS RED and BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME underscored the fact that the Greensboro, NC quintet were a force to be reckoned with. The band quickly became a beacon within the hard rock and metalcore scene, despite – or perhaps because of – their unwillingness to become yet another facsimile spewing forth endless breakdowns and Auto-Tuned choruses. TO SPEAK OF WOLVES refused to do either, and fans loved them all the more for it.
