Unsigned Spotlight: Wildheart

Wildheart are a melodic hardcore band from Brisbane Australia. They quickly moved to make a name for themselves sharing their heavy yet melodic music and showcasing their energetic live show all across QLD.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Wildheart is:

Axel Best – Vocals

Adam Finlay – Guitar

Jaya Shinn - Guitar

Kerry Rowe – Bass/Vocals

Andrew Cooke - Drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Wildheart? How long has the band been around?

We've been a band since March 2015. We all came from other local bands that had called it quits or just fizzled out. Both myself and Axel came from a band called Sevenskies, Kerry came a band called 'The Lions War' and Andrew has played in numerous Brisbane bands such as Sunsets, Arrivals and Never Lose Sight; and this is Jaya's first band which is cute.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

It took us the better part of the entire writing process for our first EP to settle on it. It's tricky sometimes finding something that everyone not necessarily likes, but doesn't hate. Heart was getting thrown around a lot and then one day someone just came out with 'Wildheart' so we were just said f**k it let's roll with that and see if we still like it in a month.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

I basically write all the music, will demo out songs and then show them to the rest of the guys and we just talk about how we can make the song better be it moving parts around cutting stuff etc. It's always good to get different ideas and perspectives as guaranteed someone will throw an idea out you never thought of.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

I think that's a question more for the “audience” but we've been compared to old For The Fallen Dreams, The Ghost Inside, Counterparts even Architects which is mental to me as that band is super next level.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

I think from the moment I picked up the guitar and seeing other people play in bands and seeing mates start bands and playing shows I just became super driven to get involved in a band.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Plenty of weird flex's but we're usually still pretty broken after a show if we go a but too hard. We usually stretch up beforehand, Axel will do vocal warm ups I can't speak for everyone else but I usually spend about 15 minutes getting myself into the right headspace as well.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

We're still riding off the release of our new EP 'We Are' which is easily the best thing I've been a part of not only in this band but in my musical career.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Every Time I Die, Comeback Kid, Counterparts, Fit For A King, Hundreth, While She Sleeps, Antagonist AD to name a few and Tapestry and Bare Bones because we're all mates haha!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

If you haven't already please go check out our latest EP 'We Are' Available for purchase on itunes or bandcamp or you can stream it on spotify and apple music!
