Crown the Empire killed it onstage in Atlanta last Monday night for the Take Action Tour with friends, We Came As Romans and The Used.  They really had the crowd going, especially with the moshpits they created. Playing mostly songs from their debut album, “The Fallout” their  fans were very familiar with the lyrics as they screamed them along with the band, including my favorite song “Makeshift Chemistry”. For  being a new upcoming band from Rise Records, CTE did not disappoint.

Atlanta was going crazy waiting for We Came As Romans to hit the stage. I talked to Kyle Pavone (clean vocals) before they went on and he  seemed pretty stoked to play for Atlanta. With Kyle’s singing, Dave’s screaming, and the band’s instrumentals, this band was giving their  fans one hell of a show. WCAR was warming this crowd up for The Used, even though these fans were already anticipating their stage arrival.  While playing three new songs, We Came As Romans were giving the fans what they paid for and a show to remember. Not only are they an  awesome band but they are some pretty chill guys off the stage as well.

After waiting for what seemed like forever, the lights finally dimmed and The Used walked out on the stage. They wasted no time and  launched right into “Listening” a song from their second album, In Love and Death. Their setlist included a few favorites, including the songs,  “he Bird and the Worm”, “The Taste of Ink”, and “All That I’ve Got”. Bert must have not been feeling too well cause he seemed to use the mic  stand more than necessary.

At one point in the show, a female fan threw a shirt on stage with the lyrics from a “Sold My Soul” on it, a song  from their 2009 album, Artwork. Bert noticed the shirt had one of the words was wrong, but was nice enough to let her on stage to help sing  a few songs. Before they played their next to last song, Bert asked the crowd for wall of death, which the crowd happily obliged to. Being my  first time seeing The Used, I was very impressed; stoked to seem on Vans Warped Tour this summer.

If you’re tired of the radio playing the same songs over and over, it’s cool, because your favorite bands have your back, as always. Fearless Records’ “Punk Goes Pop” is back with volume 6, set to release November 5th, featuring a handful of songs I’m sure you won’t be surprised by. It’s so fun to hear bands cover quirky mainstream songs, and I have to admit, I’ve had the album on repeat for a couple hours now.

The first of 13 tracks you’ll hear when you pop the CD in (do people do that anymore?) is Bruno Mars’ “Grenade” covered by Memphis May Fire. Don’t expect the slow song you’ve heard a million times, though. MMF turned up the tempo a couple of notches and gave it that recognizably punk sound, and did so very well. The vocals were pretty clean throughout, which I, personally, am indifferent about; it still sounds like MMF!

If you’re already a fan of Mayday Parade, their cover of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” might just be your favorite on the album. Even better - it features Vic Fuentes of Pierce the Veil. Being a huge fan of both bands, I know Derek (the lead singer of Mayday Parade) and Vic sound quite different, but damn do they sound beautiful together. The cover is fantastic, even with the faster tempo they decided to go with.

Breathe Carolina brings in a classic, covering Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean.” I can’t say it’s my favorite cover. It’s sounds a bit awkward, which might just be the autotune. This one’s the kind of cover that you either love or hate right off the bat. However, I give them major props. Covering the King of Pop? Very gutsy!

The Maine decided on a classic, as well, covering Cindi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” They changed the entire song around for themselves, and it came out great! Don’t be expecting some up-beat, quirky, mid-80’s pop song. It’s been slowed down a bit and punked out. I give them mega props for really making it their own!

The whole album, just like the rest of the Punk Goes Pop series, is just pure entertainment. It’s fun to rock out and sing-a-long to in the car. So don’t forget to check out all the bands’ covers on there; including “Call Me Maybe” by Upon a Dawning (which came out awesome by the way), “Paradise” by Craig Owens, and “Mercy” by The Word Alive!

Innerstrength Records is pleased to announce the latest addition to its already impressive stable of artists: Chicago metal road warriors ELYSION FIELDS, whose debut full-length album New Beginnings is slated for release on February 12, 2013.

As metal fans with an eye on the underground already know, ELYSION FIELDS have spent the past few years pummeling the live scene as one of the genre’s worst-kept secrets, making their presence known on stages alongside marquee names like AUGUST BURNS RED, MYCHILDREN MYBRIDE, WE CAME AS ROMANS, MISERY INDEX and more. The band increased its profile by storming SXSW, where it played four showcases including the main stage at the heralded Full Metal Texas party.

On a clear trajectory as a burgeoning metal powerhouse, ELYSION FIELDS are taking the next logical step by launching a partnership with Innerstrength for the release of New Beginnings.

Pennsylvania post-hardcore 6-piece I AM KING has signed with Velocity/Rise Records. Formed out of the Lehigh Valley in early 2010, I AM KING humbly offers a message of truth and hope with their music, while reminding their listeners the harsh reality of choosing to face both the truth and yourself.
